WGS Almost Ready
To Support Full Ops
The U.S. Air Force formally
accepted
the first Wideband Global SATCOM satellite
on January 18th from its prime contractor, The
Boeing Company. This monumental event brings the
Department of Defense's highest capacity satellite communications
one step closer to supporting operations in the U.S. Pacific
Command theater. The WGS satellite payload will be controlled
using the Global SATCOM Configuration Control Element,
the first of which was successfully activated at Camp
Roberts, California, in late December 2007. The GSCCE
incorporates commercial off-the-shelf components and technologies
to monitor and command the WGS communications payload. U.S.
Army personnel from Delta Company, 53rd Signal
Battalion, will use the GSCCE from their operations
center at Camp Roberts.
Launched on October 10th, 2007, WGS-1
has completed 98 days of orbit-raising and exhaustive test
activities and is now ready for final DoD-led checkout activities.
Following these activities, WGS-1 will be relocated to its
operational location over the Pacific Ocean. After arriving
safely and proceeding through one final test, WGS-1 control
will be transferred to the U.S. Strategic Command
and it will immediately begin providing unprecedented communications
support to U.S. and coalition forces.
WGS platform control is performed using the Command and
Control System - Consolidated, operated by the 3rd
Space Operations Squadron at Schriever Air Force
Base in Colorado. Boeing transferred control of WGS-1
from their mission control center in El Segundo, Calif.,
in early January to 3 SOPS. Airmen from 3 SOPS will be responsible
for all on-orbit maintenance activities, such as maneuvering
and anomaly resolution. The squadron also operates the legacy
Defense Satellite Communications System III
constellation. The GSCCE activation and on-orbit handover
to 3 SOPS are the culmination of two years of joint training
and rehearsal activitiesLos Angeles Air Force Base,

I would like to thank everyone for their
patience while I was moving. The move is complete and I
am currently back 100% after experiencing some delays as
a result of AT&T failing to get me back online when scheduled.
I am in the process of writing some help
files that will be available to those who have purchased
one of the Jtag Services, this will take me several days.
I would like to stress the importance of reading and asking
questions to all who have had problems with their receivers,
most problems are user related and can be avoided or remedied
if one is willing to spend the time reading and learning.
The help files I am creating are meant to aid, they could
never however replace the benefit of being active on a good
FTA Hobby Forum and asking questions.
As stated in an earlier news release I am
raising the prices of the services, the 0-0001 service will
now be $25.00 + shipping and the 0-0002 service will be
$35.00 + shipping. The new prices go into effect immediately
with the exception of those who have made an inquiry and
have been given a price prior to this release, to those
the price will remain as quoted as long as their receiver
is received in the next seven days. If you have any questions
please
Contact Us.
